Frequently Asked Questions

How much volume is in each CellGlow well?

There is no liquid present in the wells. CellGlow Viability Assays include 96 individually-sealed wells that are precision-coated with surface-stabilized fluorophores. The fluorophores are instantly resuspended when a cell suspension is added.

What fluorophores does the CellGlow Viability Assay use?

CellGlow uses Acridine Orange and Propidium Iodide for staining cells green (live) and red (dead). This makes CellGlow compatible with a wide range of automated cell counters.

Do I have to have a DeNovix cell counter to use CellGlow?

No, CellGlow is not limited to use on the DeNovix CellDrop Automated Cell Counter. It is designed to be compatible with any automated cell counter.

What is the shelf life of CellGlow and how should it be stored?

The shelf life of CellGlow is 12 months at room temperature. Refrigeration is not required, so it can be kept directly on the lab bench.

Where can I find the protocol for using CellGlow?

CellGlow Viability Assay Protocol. We also have a Quick Start Video Guide.

What volume of cells is required?

It is recommended to add 20 µL of cell suspension to each well.

Can wells be re-used?

No, CellGlow wells are individually sealed and designed for use with a single sample.

Do I need to change any settings on my cell counter?

The only change is the dilution factor used. Liquid dyes normally dilute your sample 1:1, so a dilution factor of 2 is typically used.  Cells are not diluted when using CellGlow, so the dilution factor should be set to 1.

How long is the incubation time to stain cells?

There is no incubation time necessary when using CellGlow. Simply add the cell suspension, mix 2 to 3 times, and load onto your cell counter.

How should CellGlow be stored?

CellGlow is designed to be stable at room temperature in ambient lab conditions. It can be kept right on your bench and is stable for 12 months.

What should I do once I use every well in a column?

CellGlow is formatted into 12 columns of strip tubes with 8 wells each. Each strip can be torn away and easily disposed of once all the wells have been used.
